High School Student
Exchange Program 2010
As one of the efforts to promote youth exchanges and enhance mutual understanding between Japan and Europe, the Government of Japan offers Japan-Europe High School Student Exchange Program. In this program, the students will attend Japanese schools and stay in Japanese ordinary households, and take part in some other activities in Japan.
For the year 2010, participants are eligible for both, short term and long term program.
Program Details
Short-term program
The Program starts on June 20, 2010 and ends on July 25, 2010. Participants will attend Japanese high school classes, tour in Japanese provinces, and stay in Japanese ordinary households.
Long-term program
The Program starts on August 15, 2010 and ends on January 5, 2011. Participants will attend Japanese high school classes, stay in Japanese ordinary households, and take part in other activities.
How to apply
- The applicant must:
- be 15-18 years of age and enrolled in high school as of 1st of April, 2010
- be a citizen of Belgium.
- be healthy physically and mentally.
- have basic knowledge of Japanese language and Japanese culture, or have great interest in learning them.
- be able to communicate in English.
- be able to adapt to Japanese family's custom.
- not have any plan to go to Japan in near future
- not have Japanese nationality.
- Documents to submit
- Application form (Word)
- Cover letter (1 page on A4 format)
- Photograph (size 5x4 cm) taken within the past 6 months / To be affixed to the application form
- Copy of international passport or ID card (page with photo)
- Certificate of Enrolment issued by your school
- Application to the program should be submitted by Monday 8th February, 2010 to info.emb-japan@skynet.be (Please state in subject line "Japan-Europe High School Student Exchange Program 2010"). The potential candidates will be selected through application screening and interviews in English and Japanese. We accept applications by E-mail only!
- The Japanese Government will provide air tickets between Europe and Japan to participate in this program, bear costs for tour in provinces organized in the framework of the program and cover relevant costs for attendance at high school classes. The participants are expected to cover all the other costs.
