On 10 May, the design of the “Brussels Flower Carpet 2016” was announced at a press conference held at the Brussels city hall. Mayor of Brussels Mr. Yvan Mayeur opened by stating that as part of the celebrations of 150 of Friendship between Japan and Belgium, the Flower Carpet taking place from 12-15 August will have Japan as the country of honor. The Flower Carpet will feature a Japanese motif by Nomura designer Fujie Suzuki. The Brussels Flower Carpet is a biannual event held at the Brussels Grand Place and this year will mark the 20th edition. Ambassador Ishii looked back on the history of 150 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium and stated that it is the friendship, trust and solidarity which connect the people of the two countries.
