Sister Cities
Yuki (Ibaraki) & Mechelen (Antwerp)

Yuki City and Mechelen City are cities with enriched histories. Some common factors such as textiles (Yuki Tsumugi and Tapestry) and furniture (paulownia wood chest of drawers and baroque furniture) made the two cities closer to start exchanges, and a sister city pact was concluded in 1996.
Various people-to-people programmes and activities including delegation visits and youth homestays have been organised. Yuki City accepted a Belgium Coordinator for International Relations, held a Belgium fair and have received Belgian and Dutch teachers’ delegation regularly.
On 28th November 2011, Yuki City International Exchange Friendship Committee members visited the Embassy of Belgium in Japan and made a courtesy call on Ambassador Luc Liebaut.
