a staff member for the Japan Information and Cultural Centre
The Embassy of Japan in Belgium is hiring a full-time staff member to work from 25 July 2016 to 21 February 2017.
Job description
1. Public Relations concerning Japan
including:
- providing Japan-related information to Belgian press / media
- disseminating information about Japan as well as Embassy-related events on website and social media
- responding to inquiries
2. Japanese cultural event planning and implementation
including:
- music concerts, lectures, exhibitions, film screenings, and workshops (on ikebana, tea ceremony, calligraphy, martial arts, manga, Japanese cuisine, etc.)
3. Secretarial work for diplomats
- providing overall administrative and secretarial support to the diplomatic staff of the section (including organizing visits, making reservations, writing letters and emails in English, French and/or Dutch)
Profile
The applicant to this position should have:
- an adequate Belgian work permit
- positive attitude to work
- a very high level of English proficiency is required for this position, as well as excellent knowledge of French and/or Dutch (particularly writing skills). Japanese language skills are desirable, but not a must (Japanese applicants are also welcome)
- good ICT, social media and networking skills
- good understanding of Belgium’s journalism
- keen interest in Japan
- good analytic and excellent communication skills
- a recently-obtained university degree (bachelor or higher) in a relevant field (e.g.: political science, public administration, international relations, journalism, economics, Japanese studies)
