Exchanging a Japanese drivers license for a Belgian license

If you are a Japanese driver’s license holder and you now officially live in Belgium, you will need to change your license to a Belgian license.

Since it is not permitted for long-term residents holding a Belgian residence card to use their Japanese license, you will need to have your Japanese driver’s license exchanged with a Belgian license.

You can only exchange your driver’s license if you have had the Japanese license at least three months after its issuance while residing in Japan.

Contact the city hall of your place of residence for more information on the conditions of the exchange.

To be able to have the license exchanged, you will need to submit a translation issued by the Embassy of Japan.

Contact the Consular Service during office hours for more information.
