Visit to the National Museum of Playing Cards and Cartamundi

On 12th March, Ambassador Sakaba visited the National Museum of Playing Cards located in Turnhout in the province of Antwerp. Turnhout is famous for producing playing cards since 19th century where Japanese playing cards such as Hanafuda and Hyakunin Isshu were also produced and exported to Japan in 19th century. Later, Ambassador Sakaba visited Cartamundi located also in Turnhout. Cartamundi is a company producing playing cards including trumps and has the world’s top market share. The company has set up a joint venture with a Japanese company last February and is planning to produce and sell collection cards etc. in Japan.
