International Aikido Celebration
25/10/2016From October 21-23, as part of the 150 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium, the international Aikido Celebration was held. On October 21, Manneken Pis was dressed in an aikido costume and a celebration was held in front of the statue, in attendance of Ambassador Ishii and Ms. Kurihara. On October 22 and 23, a training to welcome Doshu Mr. Moriteru Ueshiba, along with a programme to introduce Japanese culture was held at Tour and Taxis, attracting around 1.500 aikido practitioners. On the evening of October 22, a gala event was held, attended by Ambassador Ishii, Mrs. Ishii and Ms. Kurihara. On October 23, an aikido demonstration event was held in attendance of Minister Yamada. The Association Francophone d'Aikido, the main organizer of this event, collaborated with its Dutch language counterpart, Vlaamse Aïkido Vereniging, attracting practitioners from Belgian as well as from neighbouring countries, resulting in the largest aikido event in Belgium.
