14/12/2016

On December 13, the Closing Reception of the 150 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium was held at the Cercle Royal Gaulois in Brussels. Mr. Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Mr. Siegfried Bracke, President of the Chamber of Representatives and Head of the Committee for Friendship between Japan and Belgium, Ambassador Ishii, Prof. Gilbert Declerck, President of the BJA and Mr. Masatsugu Minaka, President of the Nihonjinkai, gave speeches. Following the speeches, the sake barrel ceremony was held to symbolize the opening of the curtains for the new relations between the two countries at this closing ceremony of the 150 years anniversary. Many people for various fields like politics, economics, culture and academics from both countries, including Mr. Pieter De Crem, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, and Ms. Cécile Jodogne, State Secretary of the Brussels-Capital Region, were present. This was a good opportunity to confirm that, while this was a closing reception for this celebrative year, it is also the start of a new beginning.
