Opening of the Japanese Masks Exhibition at the International Carnivals and Masks Museum of Binche

On November 17, at the International Carnivals and Masks Museum of Binche, Ms. Kurihara attended the opening of the “Japon – Masques de soi (Japan, masks of the ‘self’)” exhibition which is part of the 150 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium.
Deputy Mayor of Binche Laurent Devin, Director of Japan Information and Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Japan Ms. Kurihara, General Inspector for the Bilateral Affairs & European Territorial Cooperation Department of Wallon-Brussels International (WBI) Christian Carette and Acting Director of the International Carnivals and Masks Museum Clémence Mathieu gave their speeches. The exposition covers a wide range of topics on the Japanese mask culture beginning with the masks of Noh-theater, which is at the center of the history of masks in Japan, all the way through the masks at Festivals and pictures on the theme of ‘Masks’ by Japanese artist Ms. Kimiko Yoshida.
“Japon – Masques de soi” will be on display until March 19, 2017.
