Partial restart for visa applications (Oct. 1, 2020)

The Japanese authorities have decided to partially reopen the borders as from October 1, 2020.

Visa applications can now be submitted, if conditions are met, by the following persons :

  • Holders of a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
  • Professionals wishing to enter Japan for business purposes (stay of 90 days or less)
visa for tourism purposes cannot be applied for at this moment

Spouses or children of Japanese nationals/permanent residents, and, Spouses or children of foreign nationals who have the status of residence of ‘Long-Term Resident’ and whose family is staying in Japan and who have been separated from their family, are kindly requested to contact the Consular Section by telephone for more information.

Required documents for visa applications :

1. Holders of a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
  • Visa application form ( www.mofa.go.jp/files/000124525.pdf )
  • Recent identity photograph taken within the last six months
  • Valid passport
  • Belgian ID card or residency card
  • Certificate of Eligibility
  • ※If you apply presenting the Certificate of Eligibility that has expired and has been issued on or after October 1, 2019, you must present a document that states that the Japanese host organization will “continue to follow the activities at the time of application for the Certificate of Eligibility
  • Written pledge (PDF) (2 copies)
