Sister Cities
Komatsu (Ishikawa) & Vilvoorde (Flemish Brabant)
■Since 15th May, 1974
After Komatsu Europe International n.v., the European Headquarter of the Komatsu Group, has been relocated to Vilvoorde City in 1972, they became sister cities in May 1974.
Since then, the relationship of the two cities has been strenghthened with the contribution of the former Prime Minister Dehane (was also a former Mayor of Vilvoorde).
In 2014, a rose garden was made in Komatsu City and a Japanese garden in the Drie Fonteinen Park in Vilvoorde City to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the sister city relations.
Both cities are also active on youth exchanges. In August 2013, a youth delegation from Vilvoorde City visited Komatsu City, and in 2014, a youth delegation from Komatsu visited Vilvoorde.
