No, you cannot. MEXT rules that applicants have to apply for the MEXT scholarship at a Japanese embassy in the countries of their nationalities. Please contact the Japanese embassy in the country of your nationality.

Yes, you can apply for the MEXT scholarship at the Japanese Embassy in Brussels. Please note that for written examinations and interviews, you have to physically come to our embassy in Brussels.

Yes, with the following conditions.

1. Your supervisor / master’s or PhD programme / university allow you to conduct research only in English and/or with improvement of your Japanese skills.

2. You are willing to learn Japanese (even if you do not need Japanese for your research).

Yes, you may. However classes at universities are conducted in Japanese, unless you are directly placed to English bachelor’s programme.

Yes, you may. However classes in professional training colleges are conducted in Japanese, so international students must be proficient in Japanese (expected JLPT N1~N2 level). .

No, it is not necessary. You can make English translations by yourself using online translation tools (e.g. DeepL, Google Translate.)
