“Belgium Diplomats Photo Exhibition” Opening Reception

On January 14, the opening ceremony of “Belgian Diplomats Photo Exhibition” was held at the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Japan. Ambassador Ishii and Baroness Jonet (a relative of Baron Albert de Bassompierre, who was stationed in Japan at the Belgian Embassy from 1921 until 1939) explained about the photo albums of de Bassompiere which are on display. The pictures show the nature, people and scenery of Japan in that period, seen through the eyes of the Belgian Ambassador to Japan. These are valuable records which transmit to us an outlook on an important period of the 150 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium. The visitors, among which relatives of Baron de Bassompierre, attended in great numbers and with great interest. The exhibition is open until January 26.
