Chado Demonstration
On June 2, as part of the 150 years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium, a tea ceremony (chado) demonstration was held at the Japan Information and Cultural Centre. The demonstration was conducted by Ms. Michiko Nojiri, Tea Master in the Urasenke tradition of chado, who came from Rome for this occasion. Following an opening statement by Ambassador Ishii, Tankokai Belgium President, Mr. Pierre de Béthune, explained more about the tea ceremony and subsequently a demonstration with usucha (light matcha tea) was performed by Master Nojiri. She talked about chado being a form of non-verbal communication and about the spirit of chado. Participants followed the demonstration with great enthusiasm and enjoyed a cup of matcha tea. Finally, the event came to a close after a lively Q&A session.
