Rakugo-Performances of the ‘Sister Cities Cooperation Project’
2016/8/1
From 20-29 July, as part of the 150 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium, Rakugo shows were held by the ‘Sister Cities Cooperation Project’ in the cities of Waterloo, Ghent, Hasselt and Durbuy. First secretary, Ms. Kurihara, attended the performances in Waterloo on 20 July and in Ghent on 23 July.
With a room in laughter, Rakugo Master Ichinosuke Shunputei and Koharu Tatekawa performed Rakugo, a traditional form of comical storytelling containing the Japanese patrimony from the Edo-period (1603-1868) until now. The Rakugo-performance in cooperation with the sister cities, was suggested by Prof. Niehaus of the university of Ghent. The Rakugo in Ghent was performed during the ‘Gentse Feesten’ (Ghent Festival).【reference】 Sister cities participating in the ‘Sister Cities Cooperation Project’ : Waterloo (Nagakute), Ghent (Kanazawa), Hasselt (Itami) and Durbuy (Hanyu)
