On 21 October, Minister Yamada and First Secretary Ikoma attended the business seminar organized by the Port Authority of Antwerp.

In his keynote speech, Minister Yamada mentioned the significance of the Amity Commerce and Navigation Treaty between Japan and Belgium in 1866 at the start of the 150 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium, the state visit of Their Majesty the King and Queen of Belgium in Japan which happened the week before the seminar, and the sister port relations that exist since 1988 between the Port of Antwerp and the Port of Nagoya. He also stated the importance of the logistics and the maritime navigation.

CEO of Port of Antwerp Eddy Bruyninckx and CCO Luc Arnouts mentioned in their turn the port’s close relationship with Japan, including special events held yearly for Japan by the Port Authority.

As part of the 3rd Japan Day by the Port of Antwerp, this seminar was held at the Port Authority’s head office building, whose extension work had just finished. The seminar also introduced the business experience of the Yusen Logistics Company at the Port of Antwerp.
