Celebration of the 50th anniversary of MUFG Brussels Branch
On November 9, Ambassador Ishii, Minister Yamada and First Secretary Ikoma attended the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the MUFG Bank (Europe) in Brussels.
In his celebration speech, Ambassador Ishii congratulated MUFG Bank for their 50 years anniversary, and pointed out the significance of celebrating 50 years of perseverance in such changing times, like the significance and prospects of the 150 years long friendship between Japan and Belgium.
This event took place at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. After a music performance of violinist Yuzuko Horigome, honorary professor of the KU Leuven Willy Vande Walle gave an explanation on the debut of the exchanges between our two countries and commented on how the Meiji-government used the National Bank of Belgium as a model to establish the system of the Bank of Japan, as well as on the history of the Yokohama Specie Bank from which the MUFG Bank derived.
