Reception to celebrate the New Year 2018
On January 12, 2018, Ambassador Hajime HAYASHI organised a reception at his residence to celebrate the New Year. About 130 people attended it, including the leaders of Japanese association, Japanese business people, representatives of international organisations and media, and Japanese residents in Belgium in the scientific, cultural, artistic sectors.
At the beginning of this New Year, Ambassador Hayashi expressed his expectations for further progress and strengthening of Japanese-Belgian relations in each area as well as continuing productive activities by many Japanese companies and Japanese residents. He also drew their attention to the security situation and the importance of collaborating with the Japanese Embassy, citing the terrorist attacks in Brussels in March 2016. Then, Mr. Yuji KAWASE, President of the Japanese Association, gave a few words for a toast to celebrate the New Year. At this reception, the Osechi-ryori (traditional Japanese New Year foods), Japanese wines and sakes were served, and the participants were able to share and exchange their new year’s blessings in a friendly atmosphere.
