Visit to Charleroi by Himeji Junior High School Students

The cities of Charleroi and Himeji formed a sister city relationship in 1965, following the visit of Their late Majesties King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola to Himeji in 1964. Every year since 1993, junior high school students from Himeji are sent to Charleroi, and homestays are organized, continueing the exchange. This year as well, from July 22 until 27, 6 junior high school students from Himeji made a visit to Charleroi. On July 27, a farewell reception was held in which the host families also took part. Mr. Maekawa, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of our Embassy, attended the event together with his spouse, and stated during his address that he is pleased that the exchanges, as part of the historical sister city relationship, continue to be held through the youngsters who are bearing the next generation.
