Team Belgium Run to Tokyo 2019
On September 15, the “Team Belgium Run to Tokyo 2019” was held at the Soignes forest in Brussels. This running event aims to support the Belgian national team at the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020. Teams of 5 persons from companies and organizations competed in a relay race over a total distance of 42 kilometers. The event is an initiative of the Belgian Olympic Committee and a follow-up on last year’s edition. Members from the Embassy of Japan in Belgium, the Mission of Japan to the EU and the Mission of Japan to NATO participated with two teams and completed a strong performance.
Around 200 teams participated this year, surpassing last year’s number of participants. Just like last year, the Belgium Military Athletic Team secured the first and second places with overwhelming strength. Ambassador Shimokawa attended the award ceremony, and awarded the medals together with the President of the Belgian Olympic Committee Mr. Beckers and the committee’s CEO Mr. Vander Putten. The Ambassador praised the athletes for their strong performance and said he expects the Belgian team to fully demonstrate its strength and play an active role at the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Tokyo 2020 which will be held in 10 months from now.
