[Ambassador] Reception for the Japan Self-Defense Forces Day 2025

On 30 October, the Embassy of Japan held the 2025 Reception for the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) Day at the Ambassador’s residence. Approximately 150 guests, including officials of the Belgian Ministry of Defence and the Belgian Armed Forces, military representatives to the NATO and EU, Ambassadors and defense attachés from the diplomatic corps attended the reception.

This year marks the 71st anniversary since the foundation of the JSDF. Ambassador Mikami Masahiro made remarks, recalling the history of the JSDF since its establishment, emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding among defense organizations. The Ambassador also explained Japan’s new initiatives announced by the new Prime Minister Takaichi, including advancing the 2% GDP defense spending target and the review aimed at revising “the three strategic documents” within the next year.

By serving Japanese cuisine alongside matcha tea at this reception, the event conveyed the importance of dialogue and mutual trust through the spirit of the tea ceremony, which values harmony and respect.
