Visit to Umicore

On 16 December, Ambassador Ishii and Mr. Morita visited Umicore’s precious metal refining plant (located in Hoboken. Umicore, a Belgian multinational company, known worldwide in the area of nonferrous metal materials, automotive catalysts and materials for lithium-ion batteries, for example, and is also present on the Japanese market. During the visit, Ambassador Ishii and Mr. Morita learned the refinement process of rare metals from disposed cell phone batteries and computers and held fruitful discussions about the Japanese-Belgian economic relationship.
