Naming Ceremony of the UECC LNG-Fuelled Car and Truck Carrier

On November 21, Ambassador Ishii, Mrs. Ishii and First Secretary Ikoma attended the naming ceremony of the United European Car Carriers (UECC) Car and Truck Carrier ship running on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which took place at the Port of Zeebrugge.

Mr. Geert Bourgeois, Minister-President of Flanders, ‎ Mrs. Claire Tillekaerts, CEO of Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), as well as Mr. Takao Kusakari, Senior Advisor of NYK and Mr. Koichi Chikaraishi, Representative Director, Senior Managing Corporate Officer and Chief Executive of Automotive Transportation Headquarters attended the event where Mrs. Tillekaerts named the newly built ship “AUTO ECO”.

AUTO ECO is the first Pure Car and Truck Carrier ship in the world to run on LNG-fuel. Zeebrugge will be the base for the vehicle-transport and fuel supply. The adoption of the LNG-fuel will contribute to reducing the release of sulfur oxide (SOx), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
