Queen Elisabeth Competition Final Day Results

On June 3, the Queen Elisabeth Competition’s final cello performances were given, followed by the announcement of the results, in the presence of Ambassador Hayashi and Ms. Kurihara. Mr. Yuya Okamoto, born in Tokyo and currently living in Germany, who gave his last performance for the final on June 1, won the 2nd prize.

The Queen Elisabeth Competition, said to be one of the world's three prestigious music competitions, held this year for the first time in its history a competition dedicated to the cello. The compulsory work for the final “Sublimation” was composed by Toshio Hosokawa, and together with the 2nd prize of Mr. Okamoto, its 1st cello competition shared a joyful moment with Japan.
