Fukko Concert

2019/3/15

On March 9, the 8th edition of the Fukko Concert was held at the Concert Noble in Brussels, and was attended by Ambassador Hayashi.
Led by the world-renowned violinist Ms. Yuzuko Horigome, the concert has been held every year since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, with the participation of various artists. This year’s edition was held with the participation of Ms. Horigome, cellist Mr. Yuya Okamoto, who won the 2nd prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium 2017, as well as pianist Mr. Yannick Van de Velde, who took the 1st prize in the Nany Phillepart Foundation Competition, and Feniks Taiko, a wadaiko (Japanese percussion) ensemble active in Belgium.
Ambassador Hayashi stated: “the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 was an unprecedented disaster, not only in Japan but in the world as a whole, with more than 15.800 persons who lost their lives, and more than 2.500 persons missing. Even though there has since then been a remarkable recovery, there are still many people who are in need of support, and there is a considerable number of people whose suffering has not healed yet. I am convinced that the music by these outstanding artists will reach the hearts of those who need it. Well then, let us allow the music to carry us away on its wings, and embark on a journey to East Japan.” Ambassador Hayashi also expressed his profound gratitude to all those who are involved in Fukko Concert, and the audience gave a big round of applause for the artists’ magnificent collaboration and their performance.
