[Ambassador] The collection of signatures in appreciation of the support for the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923

2021/8/6
On the 3rd of August, Ambassador Shimokawa visited the Royal Library of Belgium to observe the collection of signatures by the Japanese people back in the mid 1920s, in appreciation of the financial support they received from Belgium and other foreign countries on the occasion of the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake.

These signatures, allegedly signed by as many as 500,000 citizens in Tokyo at the time, were collected and dispatched mostly to the U.S., the U.K. and France. This collection places a high historical value being the first and only original album to be actually found, in Belgium.
