[Ambassador] Ambassador and Madame Shimokawa’s Attendance to Dinner hosted by the Walloon Government in honor of Mr. Oshima, Chairman of NGK Insulators, Ltd.

On July 7, Ambassador and Madame Shimokawa attended a dinner hosted by the Walloon Government in Namur in honor of Mr. Oshima Taku, Chairman of the Board of NGK Insulators, Ltd., who was on a visit to Belgium. NGK established NGK Ceramics Europe S.A. in 1985 in Baudour, Hainaut Province, to produce ceramic honeycomb substrates for exhaust gas purifying catalysts. In 2021, NGK Ceramics Europe S.A. announced a capital investment totaling 62 million Euros for the renewal of important process equipment in order to support the implementation of the Euro 7 automotive emission standard. In November 2021, Chairman Oshima was awarded the Order of Commander in the Order of Leopold II by H.M. King Philippe of Belgium.
H.E. Mr. Di Rupo, Minister President of the Walloon Government, and H.E. Mr. Borsus, Vice Minister-President and Minister of Economy, expressed their appreciation for NGK's long-lasting investment and job creation based on their trust in the Walloon Region, and praised the company for its efforts in addressing environmental issues at its site in Baudour. Ambassador Shimokawa expressed his condolences on the first anniversary of the floods that hit the Walloon region last summer, and reiterated his hope that the bilateral economic ties will further strengthen through the Belgian economic mission to Japan planned in December this year.
