On 8 October, together with the municipality of Waterloo, the Embassy of Japan organised a Japanese cultural event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Waterloo-Nagakute sister city partnership. Upon the management of L'Arbre à Plumes (asbl), a number of cultural activities such as ikebana and kintsugi workshops were carried out, attracting nearly 600 visitors.
At the reception held in the evening, Mayor of Waterloo Florence Reuter gave an address, together with a video message from Mayor of Nagakute Yoshida Ippei, and celebrated the continued friendship between the two cities. Ambassador Shimokawa announced the lifting of restrictions on entry into Japan from October 11 and expressed his wishes for more active exchanges between the two cities in the future.
Participants enjoyed the event as saying that it was a great opportunity to experience Japanese culture, and that they would like to visit Nagakute City sometime in the future.
