The 29th Japanese Speech Contest in Belgium

On November 26, the 29th Japanese speech contest was held by the Nihonjinkai at the Japanese School of Brussels.  In the contest, 7 persons took part in group A, aimed at beginners, and 15 persons participated in group B, aimed at the intermediate or higher level, presenting the fruits of their efforts in studying the language.

The First Prize went to Ms. Marianna Georgia Chantz for her speech entitled “To the world of Haiku!” for which she also received a round-trip ticket to Japan provided by Mitsui & Co. Benelux S. A./N. V. The Ambassador’s Prize went to Mr. Chang Guo, for his speech entitled “Differences between Japan and Belgium from a Chinese perspective”, for which he received a commemorative award from Minister Ogawa. The Kikimasho Prize in group A went to Ms. Ana Lydia Couto de Souza, for her speech entitled “'Dream Japan and Real Japan”.

In his remarks, Minister Ogawa expressed his gratitude to all the participants for choosing Japanese as their language of study, and wished that their experience of participating in the speech contest would benefit all of them.
