2024/5/13
On 7 May, His Majesty King Philippe visited Toyota Motor Europe's R&D Centre and attended Business Roundtable with Japanese companies at the Royal Palace.

In the morning, His Majesty King Philippe visited Toyota Motor Europe's R&D Centre, where he was guided by Toyota executives on a tour of the Hydrogen Factory and the Design Centre, and was briefed on zero CO2 emission technologies, Toyota’s efforts to realize a hydrogen society and how the new Toyota C-HR and other models are designed and developed for the European market.
The King was chauffeured across the premises to the Design Centre in Toyota’s APM (Accessible People Mover), a wheelchair accessible battery electric vehicle designed to transport athletes and others at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris this summer.

In the afternoon, His Majesty King Philippe hosted a business roundtable with representatives of Japanese companies that have long been active in Belgium. The Japanese companies made presentations on their experience, Belgian-Japanese industry-government-academia cooperation and their future investment-business plans. There was a lively exchange of views on the investment and business environment in Belgium.
Ambassador Mikami expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Philippe for his initiative, noting that bilateral relations are developing, supported by the close and cordial ties between the Belgian Royal Family and the Japanese Imperial Family, and that the economic mission led by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid in December 2022 has given momentum for Japanese companies in such fields as offshore wind power, advanced medicine and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and hydrogen. The Ambassador also expressed his hope to further strengthen the relationship with the Osaka-Kansai World Expo in 2025 and with the 160th anniversary of Japan-Belgium relations in 2026.
