Japan supports Central Asia and Caucasus through the WCO (World Customs Organization)
The Government of Japan has decided to provide funding in the amount of around 600,000 Euros to the WCO to support the prevention of illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons in Central Asia and the Caucasus.
The project will support the Customs administrations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It aims at strengthening border control of small arms and light weapons through improved risk management practices and enhanced capability of frontline officers to detect prohibited and restricted goods.
On Monday 10 February 2025, Ambassador Mikami and Mr. Ian Saunders, the Secretary General of the WCO, exchanged Notes Verbales for the implementation of the project and reaffirmed their continuous cooperation between Japan and the WCO in the Customs field.
