His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh visits Hougoumont Garden

2025/6/26
On the 20th of June, Ambassador Mikami visited the Waterloo battlefield to attend the launch of Hougoumont Garden restoration in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh.

The chateau farm of Hougoumont is where most intense battles took place during the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815, and Les Amis des Jardins d’Hougoumont have launched a project to restore the historic gardens of Hougoumont.

During the commemoration of the project’s launching, HRH Duke of Edinburgh planted grains of the peace trees that survived the atomic bombing in Hiroshima. Amid the global uncertainties and crises in Ukraine, the Middle East and elsewhere, we are honoured and grateful that these seeds have reached Waterloo, and that they are planted in the soil of this former battlefield in the pursuit of peace. We appreciate the organization of this important event.
