The Conference of European Society of Historical Demography at the KUL

On 21 September, at the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL) in Flanders, the opening session of the biennial conference of European Society of Historical Demography was held. Ambassador Ishii gave a speech at the reception, and attended the conference that followed. This years’ conference was part of the 150 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium and the theme of the first day was “Learning from the Far East – Japan”. Prof. Vande Walle chaired this plenary session and 3 experts were invited from Japan to give presentations and discuss the aging society in Japan.
