“SEI & DOU” Opening Reception
On September 25, the opening of the exhibition “SEI & DOU - Flow of Emotion” by Japanese calligraphy (shodo) artists Yuho and Seiren Kawaguchi was held at the Japan Information and Cultural Centre (JICC). Ambassador Shimokawa said in his welcome address that the calligraphers, who are based in Tokoname in Aichi prefecture, have won numerous awards, including in Japan, and that he wishes that many people will be touched by the appeal of Japanese calligraphy on this occasion. Visitors eagerly asked questions about the origins of the characters that were written and the place of calligraphy in Japanese society. The artists said it was their wish to introduce authentic Japanese calligraphy to Belgium, which led them to hold this exhibition. During the opening, a mini-concert was given by Ms. Dorothea Van De Velde, a Belgian pianist and friend of the artists. The exhibition will be held until October 8, and on that final day the artists will give a demonstration of shodo.
