Theater Le Fusil de chasse
The Hunting Gun, set in the period immediately following WWII, follows the consequences of a tragic love affair among well-to-do people in an exclusive suburb of the great commercial cities of Osaka and Kobe. Told from the viewpoints of three different women, this is a story of the psychological impact of illicit love. First viewed through the eyes of Shoko, who learns of the affair through reading her mother's diary, then through the eyes of Midori, who had long known about the affair of her husband with Saiko, and finally through the eyes of Saiko herself.

Theater Claude Régy - Intérieur
It is evening. Through the lighted windows of a house, a man looks in at a family: a father, mother, two daughters, and a sleeping toddler. They seem happy, but they do not know that fate has struck. The man is there to announce that their eldest daughter has drowned. He hesitates, but the funeral procession inexorably approaches... The timeless tragedy Intérieur (1894) by Belgian Symbolist writer Maurice Maeterlinck merges life with death. Claude Régy already directed this ‘sea of darkness’ back in 1985. In 2013, at the age of 90, the unique French theatre figure trekked to Shizuoka to perform the piece again with a Japanese company. The encounter between Régy’s theatre – minimalist, formal, almost sacred – and Japanese culture seemed quite obvious. It culminated in a gripping, uncompromising piece in which movement, lighting, and language are reduced to their most essential form. Intérieur is a performance of surreal slowness and sublime beauty. A masterpiece

Exhibition HANGA. Printmaking Japan | Belgium Today
The exhibition HANGA - Japanese for the art of printmaking - is the sequel to the successful Belgo - Japanese graphic art exhibition in Kyoto in 2011. Three years later, 50 Japanese and Belgian artists are meeting up again for an artistic encounter. The benchmark chosen for the Belgian counterpart of this exhibition is Sint-Niklaas and its International Exlibris and Printmaking Centre. Thanks to the large, high-quality proportion of Japanese and Belgian pieces shown during the exhibition, HANGA is rolling out to become a major, city-wide project radiating out supra-regionally across different exhibitions and locations. Between 29 June and 5 October 2014, visitors can immerse themselves in the many facets of contemporary, but also historic Japan.
Modern printmaking – exlibris – historical objects and print – contemporary arts.

Lecture Ch'oe Chaeso's Invention of "Japanese" Literature, or How English Literature Helped a Colonial Korean Intellectual Collaborate with the Japanese Empire by Prof. MIHARA Yoshiaki (Doshisha University)
Ch’oe Chaeso (1908-1964) was arguably the most intelligent colonial Korean intellectual that the Japanese Imperialist education system had ever produced. He studied English Literature at Keijo (Seoul) Imperial University, and was a promising scholar of English literature in the Japanese academia, while playing the role of a leading critic and chief advocator of “Intellectualism” in the post-KAPF critical scenes in Korea. He presided as a leading colonial intellectual all through the last phase of the Japanese Imperial rule, which inevitably gave him the name of a "collaborator". This lecture aims at critically reassessing, rather than simply denouncing, Ch’oe Chaeso’s "collaboration" as a desperate, and in the end abortive, project of creating a space for Korean literature and criticism to survive the ever-worsening colonial conditions, given that the Japanese political as well as cultural dominance were irrevocable.

Until 09/28 Exhibition MA
During the summer of 2014 we invite the Japanese-Belgian artists couple Sei Arimori and Annie Brasseur to expose their monumental art in the Sint-Anna-ten-Drieën church in Antwerp.

Sei Arimori masters the tradition of tempera and gold leaf, combining traditional techniques, but also from the Flemish painters of the Middle Ages and the Italian Renaissance: techniques he learnt from his numerous travels in Europe. His exhibitions in New York, Washington, Paris and Japan proved to be very successful. Tireless creator, in harmony with nature, he reveals his emotions in an abstract and spiritual world. Sei Armori’s art lets shadow and light freely express themselves, sublimates space, plays with the reflections of gold, this precious symbol of life and spirituality present in every culture.

Annie Brasseur is a Belgian sculptor from Tournai. Her metal sculptures represent a geometric complexity of tension between different metals. In her work she brings together the suppleness of one substance with the extreme durability of another material.
One could say that her work looks ‘more Japanese’ then Sei Arimori’s art

Workshop Salon de 和: Creation of a Sumi-e on Japanese paper panel & Tea ceremony

Creation of a Sumi-e on Japanese paper panel & Tea ceremony

This is the second instruction of Sumi-e. You will more refine your movement of the brush.

Ink wash painting, also known as literati painting is an East Asian type of brush painting that uses black ink―the same as used in East Asian calligraphy, in various concentrations. For centuries, this most prestigious form ofChinese art was practiced by highly educated scholar gentlemen or literati.

Names used in the cultures concerned include: in Chinese shui-mo hua (水墨畫), in Japanese sumi-e (墨絵) or suibokuga (水墨画?), in Korean sumukhwa (수묵화), and in Vietnamese tranh thủy mặc (幀水墨).

Then, we'll serve you the Japanese traditional tea ceremony with "Maccha" (Special green tea for the ceremony) and small cakes.

We can offer you the real Zen time!

"Arigato Zen" (arigato: thank you in Japanese) is an easy & simple voice-meditation which Dr. Soho developed based on his 20-yrs. Zen training and scholarship as a specialist of comparative religion. By performing the "Arigato Zen", one is able to remove themselves of negative memories within one’s own sub-consciousness, which lie at the root of all problematic phenomena. By achieving clarity of the sub-consciousness, one is able to live with a sense of vast fulfillment and joyfulness.

Dance ||| (1)
||| (1) combines three artists' individual approaches to task-based movements and structures. Using various materials to restrict and determine proximity, the trio focuses on movement, sound, and visual qualities, and explores the points where their actions conjoin, sync, phase, and/or oscillate; in unison and simultaneity.

Abstract and without narrative, ||| (1) leaves the audience space to assess the actions of the trio and interpret or propose her/his own meaning, content and thoughts.

Beyond the border
